Nothing short of a miracle! September 8, 2010 Penny Matzelle (Long Island, NY USA) We bought this for our five year old, who we were having severe problems waking up in the morning, even after sleeping a cool eleven hours! On weekends, this wasn't a problem, but we're a two income family and waking her up to get dressed, fed, and out the door on weekdays was really stressful on us all. So we were hedging our bets on the fact that what she wants more than anything nowadays is to show her independence (on weekends, she loves waking up (late), picking out her own clothes, brushing teeth, making her bed, all on her own). By setting this clock and allowing her the ability to wake up "on her own" and do all of these independent things, she's like a completely different person! Mornings are pleasant and filled with accomplishments for her, so we're hoping that this will carry over well to next week, when she starts taking a school bus to kindergarten - so time will be even more crucial. Thanks for a great clock with terrific features! Even our 2 and 1/2 year old wants to press the buttons to know what time it is, so it will have appeal for years to come, we're sure!
Great teaching tool August 21, 2010 Milwaukee Mom 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I bought this clock to help my five year-old wake up for kindergarten. It's simple to use, and it helps teach time. It offers several games of various difficulty. We learned how to tell the hour within the first couple minutes of using it. And, he loves to press the button to hear the time. I would definitely recommend this.
Good product - but the backlight IS too bright August 19, 2010 R. Stewart (Washington, DC United States) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This seems to be working well so far for my almost-2 daughter. I programmed the clock so that it turns on the green light when it's OK for my daughter to wake up and call for me. So far, so good! I have no idea if she's actually sleeping, or if she just stares at the clock until it turns green, but she's quiet, so I'm not sure I care. ;-)
While it is true that you can turn off the night light feature, there are other lights in the clock (behind the face and in the "feet") that still glow orange/yellow, and are quite bright, even set at the dimmest setting. I agree with the other posters that this is just too bright. Prior to getting this clock, we also did not have any night lights in the room. So far, the orange/yellow glow does not seem to be keeping my daughter awake, and I have the clock across the room, so the lights are not shining on/near her. I am very sensitive to even small lights in a room at night, and I wouldn't be able to sleep with this clock in the room.
I am going to try turning off the LEDs in the feet, as one of the other posters suggested. Thanks!
Complicated Alarm Clock--Even for Parents August 10, 2010 R. Fink (Washington, DC) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
The clock looks cute and I like the fact that it shows both analog and digital time. However, I had difficulty programming the clock, even by following the instructions. I recommend buying that has fewer options and is easier to use.
Night light nightmare August 10, 2010 Lindsay R Vespignani (Seattle, WA United States) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
My girls have a tendency to get up early and are both light sensitive. What a great idea to get a clock with a light which tells them when it's okay to get out of bed! In theory it sounded great but when we got the clock (which is really cool by the way) and set it up, we found out that in order to get the "green wake up light" to go on, we needed to enable the night light. For us, night lights = kids wide awake. It's true you can disable the night light, but if you do that, you also disable the "wake up green light." So at night we throw a dark towel over the clock to block the night light and when the girls get up, they take off the towel and wait in bed until it turns green, which means more sleep for us (yeah!) but no more sleep for them (boo). In conclusion, this is a really great clock if you're kids aren't light sensitive. If they are, you're screwed.
