A kid's review July 2, 2010 SleepingLorca This helicopter is extremely stable and easy to control. The design is much cooler than the havic heli's.
The missiles shoot the majority of the time when you press the button, and when they do, they shoot a little less
then a second after you press the button, but they shoot pretty far.
Although this helicopter say INDOORS on the box, it can be flown outdoors if a couple conditions are met. The
infrared controler doesn't work so well with bright light. Also, there has to be little to no breeze.
It is a very good idea to read the instructions! There are a couple of things which are easy to miss if you go by
assumptions. They go as follows:
1. The red light will FLASH when it is charging.
2. The helicopter must be OFF.
3. Before you recharge the battery, wait 10-15 minutes to let the battery cool down (I didn't see this part, so
I haven't been doing it. It may or may not be important.).
The flight time averages about 5-9 minutes after about 30-45 minutes of charge. I've had it for about a week now,
and most of the damage from crashes has ended up on the rotors and the nose.
Over all, this helicopter is great.
Good to Start June 19, 2010 J. Detchon (Medina, OH) 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
I bought this on a whim just to how see how well they work, and was pleasantly surprised to find that this particular model is pretty easy to fly, and the missile launchers are quite fun for harassing the cat. For me this toy was a "gateway drug". While this is pretty good bang for your buck, and pretty resilient given how many times I've crashed it, it is not very controllable. It just flies forward at a slow steady speed and you guide it left and right. Now, if you're like me and wanted something with more definitive control, try the New Syma 3 Channel S107 Mini Indoor Co-Axial Metal Body Frame & Built-in Gyroscope RC Remote Controlled Helicopter in the same price range(granted shipping and handling is a bit more) you will get a quality constructed, metal helicopter with great control over up/down, left/right turns, and forward and reverse. perfect for older kids and adults alike. I was amazed at how well this little copter handled for just $30. The recharge time on the battery is a bit steep at 40-50 mins for about 8-10 mins of flight, but well worth the wait. The S107 is available on amazon, but I also recommend visiting the website [...] which is who it is sold through. The website has numerous different helicopters ranging from $20 to over $200 and most have detailed specs and even videos for most of them.
Surprisingly good May 20, 2010 Anjel (Chicago, IL) I'm not a kid, but my eyes lit up when I saw this at my local Target. As a child, I was used to racing RC cars but never had I flown anything. So at the behest of my girlfriend, I bought two so that we could have aerial fights (it has rockets!). Of course by the time I paid for it ($35.99 in stores) and was out the door, I began wondering if this thing would really fly. After charging it up and reading up on directions, I must say I was surprised as to how well this worked for the price.
The toy itself is very light, but the frame is quite sturdy for an RC this price. Ours have taken significant beatings after crashing nearly two stories several times onto solid concrete and the worst they took were superficial damage with scuffing. It handles loaded rockets fairly well, but you'll have better control without them in. Another thing to keep in mind is to be careful where you fly it. Flying this in winds other than very light will result in it being very hard to control if not unlikely. You could fly it indoors well, but keep in mind that this sucker can zoom around very quickly. Also taking off on a smooth surface will ensure a cleaner lift, as being on uneven terrain will cause it to zip to one side and barrel roll on the ground.
The RC charges through the controller which works off of six AA batteries. After roughly a half hour charge, the heli will have around four minutes of juice for flight. All in all, not too bad for a remote controller heli at a reasonable price. I do have a few warnings however. The first being that a good deal of patience is needed to master the toy. I'd say it's reasonable for a young child to figure it out, but adult supervision would probably be of help in giving the child advice on balance. The other is if you are buying this toy in an urban environment, either try to learn to fly low or else risk it flying right into a tree or a rooftop REAL easily. The battery life may also be short for many people's liking, also.
All in all, I'm very happy with this purchase and for anyone who wishes to fly, I wouldn't mind recommending this to budding RC pilots.
8 yr old loves airhog May 10, 2010 Pat from Roseville My 8 year old grandson wanted a flying toy for his birthday that was not available so we bought 2 airhogs for he and his brother. They had a blast! They charge quickly and are easy to operate. A month later, they still love them. They appear to be delicate but seem to survive just fine! Definitely at HIT!
Lives up to expectations May 6, 2010 Beth A. Forbes A toy that actually lives up to what it says. It's easy to learn with and durable. We customize with paint and stickers too.
