Aviatrix Series...WWII |

Introducing
Sarah, Maggie, and Gloria representing the women pilots of the World
War II era. Flying fighters and bombers, they ferried the war planes
to strategic places based in the United States and in England. They
instructed male pilots, tested planes previously downed in combat,
pulled banners for military target practice (at times getting hit
by pilots who missed their target), and much more.
In the beginning, these women had no official uniforms or
group designation. They wore the men’s military issue clothing
and later became members of the ATC, WAF, and WASP.
Yankee Doodle Gals, Women Pilots of WWII, by Amy Nathan,
(available at the Gallery) and other books are available that tell
some of fascinating, little known stories of these aviation
pioneers.
The Aviatrix Series beautiful collectible limited edition dolls
are 22” high with hair and make-up representative of their era.
The ladies in the series have delicate porcelain features that
include head and breast plate, hands and arms above the elbow,
feet and legs above the knees and cloth sculpted bodies.
Signed and numbered certificates are included.
Future editions in the Aviatrix Series will represent lady pilots throughout the years. |
We, the developers of the Flyin’ Grannies would like to
acknowledge and give thanks to all of the women of the WWII
era. Along with those who flew are the many whose efforts on
the home front made it possible for the men to be away. They
worked the farms; worked in the factories and other day to day
businesses to keep America strong and alive; worked in
aircraft facilities as welders, sheet metal fabricators, and
more; and those who claimed they didn’t work, yet took care
of children and spent every spare moment doing the fine
needlework required for the military patches and emblems.
Thank you ladies. |
